The Seismogenic Potential of the Southernmost Ryukyu Subduction Zone as Revealed by Historical Earthquakes and Slow Slip events

چکیده

The southernmost Ryukyu subduction zone may have a geodetically inferred M w 7.5 to 8.7 megathrust earthquake in shallow locked region, the fault. Paleoseismological evidence of historical earthquakes available from last 417 years indicates that only 1920 7.7 occurred within this magnitude range, near downdip end As slow slip events seismogenic trigger large earthquake, we investigate how first observed 2005, 2009, and 2015 initiated fault interface affect occurrence megathrust. We establish possible cycles on using constraints magnitude-frequency relation based local earthquakes. This analysis shows b value 1.2 for magnitudes greater than 7.0, which is higher empirical 1.0 value. recurrence an event up longer previously thought if follow relation. Then, quantify influence triggering potential by calculating static stress increase. find perturbations caused three are generally consistent with values triggered interplate several zones. However, has not yet been after sequence events. If rupture fault, cycle very likely early stage. true occur toward there no at years, as 2011 9.0 Tohoku earthquake. Thus, zone.

The potential for a great earthquake along the southernmost Ryukyu subduction zone

[1] Interseismic GPS data along the Hualien-Suao coast (NE Taiwan) shows a pattern of strain accumulation that is consistent with a potential future large shallow earthquake along the southernmost Ryukyu subduction zone. The measured shortening rate parallel to the Ryukyu Trench is 80 mm/yr, about twice of the shortening rate perpendicular to the Ryukyu Trench. We invert for slip-deficit rates ...

Slow earthquakes linked along dip in the Nankai subduction zone.

We identified a strong temporal correlation between three distinct types of slow earthquakes distributed over 100 kilometers along the dip of the subducting oceanic plate at the western margin of the Nankai megathrust rupture zone, southwest Japan. In 2003 and 2010, shallow very-low-frequency earthquakes near the Nankai trough as well as nonvolcanic tremor at depths of 30 to 40 kilometers were ...

Periodic slow earthquakes from the Cascadia subduction zone.

Continuous geodetic measurements from convergent margins have shown that deep transient creep events can release large amounts of strain energy without detectable seismic shaking, and they are thus known as slow or silent earthquakes. Because subduction zones generate the largest earthquakes, seismic hazard assessment relies on understanding the degree to which slow earthquakes reduce the energ...

the present study is a survey os postmodern historical novel with respect to the voice of women. it argues how the recorded history is regulated by the rules of power and how women have been excluded from this discourse.ther study analysez angela carters nights at the circus as an example of postmodern historical novel to illustrate how this novel has questioned the historical narrative and how it has inserted women into history by breaking the rules of patriarchy.

the present thesis is a study of postmodern historical novel with respect to the voice of women. according to postmodern historiography, the established institution of history is one of the other manifestations of patriarchys power which has silenced women. the study analyzes angela carters nights at the circus as a postmodern historical novel which makes its female characters transgress the pat...
